run for a week”

After being on the run for a week, a Florida woman is sitting in a
Tampa, Florida, jail. According
to New Port Richey Patch’s Sherri Lonon and Alex Tiegen’s article,
“3rd Moon Lake Beating Suspect Arrested,’ Vanessa Musson
was wanted in the robbery and beating of Joseph Bruno.
Althea Paul, of WTSP Channel 10 News, stated in her article “3rd
Suspect, victims identified in Moon Lake attempted murder” that Joseph
Bruno met Musson’s friend, Bobbie Jo Curtis, on the dating site,
singlesnet.com. Bruno opened
up his home to Curtis and her teenage son.
In return, Curtis, her son, and Musson allegedly robbed and then
beat Bruno unconscious. Paul
stated that David Ragon, Bruno’s neighbor, saw the three of them loading
up Bruno’s van. It is also
alleged that when Ragon approached the group, they decided that they would
give him a beat down as well. Ragon
was released and Bruno remained in the hospital for over a week.
According to ABC Action News’ Sarina Fazan’s article,
“Beating victim released from hospital,” Bruno was released from the
hospital on September 24, 2012. Fazan
quoted Bruno as saying, “They basically beat me silly.”
The doctors stated that Bruno had stopped breathing and they needed
to insert a breathing tube in order to keep Bruno alive.
Bruno credits Ragon for his life.
Fazan quoted Bruno as saying, “If he wasn’t there, I wouldn’t
be here today.” Bruno is
also thankful that the police were able to arrest all three suspects.
According
to the Pasco County Sheriff’s online records, Curtis was arrested on
September 15, 2012. She was
charged with false imprisonment, attempted murder, aggravated battery, and
grand theft motor vehicle. Fazan
noted that Curtis’ son was arrested as well.
Lonon and Tiegen stated that on September 21, 2012, Musson was
arrested at her attorney’s home in Tampa.
The Pasco County sheriff, Tampa police, Florida fugitive task
force, and the U.S. Marshals helped with the search.
Unfortunately for the attorney, he may also be in trouble with the
law. Lonon and Tiegen stated that the attorney told the Florida
fugitive task force that he didn’t know where Musson was at the time.
However, when the officers arrived at the attorney’s home, they
were met by an unexpected surprise, Musson.
Musson went quietly but questions continue to remain about why was
she at the attorney’s home. A question the attorney will most likely have to answer is,
“Why is it that his client, who was a fugitive from justice, in
his home? And how long was
she in the home before the police arrested her?”
And some of the common answers like, “She was afraid and I was
making arrangements to turn her in,” will most likely not work in his
favor. The attorney knows the
law and the consequences of helping someone escape justice.
So if the attorney is guilty of any wrongdoing, claiming ignorance
of the law will not work in his favor.
The same is also true for his client, Musson.
Musson is not a novice when it comes to the criminal justice
system. Although she is not a
lawyer, she has been through the criminal justice system, as a defendant,
enough times to know how it works.
According
to the Bay News 9 article, “Did Musson dye hair to avoid capture?,”
Musson has been arrested six times in six years.
In 2010, Musson was arrested on drug charges and she spent a year
in Florida’s state prison. ABC
Action News’ Ryan Raiche stated in his article “Experts: Emotions and
feelings can lead to poor decisions when involved in an online romance”
that Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco cited Musson’s lengthy criminal
history as the reason why he increased his department’s efforts to
locate her. Raiche quoted
Nocco as saying, “We have already had to send our SWAT team out once to
a location we thought she was at, and when we find other locations we are
prepared to send our SWAT team out again because she’s proven she can be
violent.” According to
Lonon and Tiegen, Pasco Sheriff’s spokesman, Kevin Doll, stated that a
decision hasn’t been made on whether to charge the attorney. Doll also stated that the investigation is on going.
After Musson was arrested, she was placed in the Hillsborough
County jail on the charges of attempted murder, false imprisonment,
aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, grand theft of a motor vehicle,
and grand theft.
